Archie Bell

Archie Bell & The Drells ☞ Tighten Up (1968) Music Video

So a story about Archie Bell & the Drells. I lived in Clear Lake Forest & ended up getting a job (under the table pay) working for a builder, since lots of new homes were going in – I swept out & cleaned & put up and took down open house signs on Sundays, etc. Anyway the guy that was my boss heard “Tighten Up” come on the radio & said he served in Vietnam with Archie Bell. I think about that every time I hear that song & geez, that’s been 50 years ago…dang.

We don’t really like what you do
We don’t think anyone ever will
It’s a problem that you have
And this problem’s made you ill

From the billion-dollar business of selling GDR prisoners to West Germany, to the ‘filtering’ of Western traffic at border crossings to recruit unofficial collaborators, Mielke’s specialists were everywhere.”
